Few months ago I found a £1 coin on the bus seat with no owner in sight, could be possible when the person got up from their seat the coin fell out.
I knew that someone else would take the coin and buy a sweet or something so took the £1 coin, kept it and donated £1 from my bank account to an environmental charity via it’s website.
Was that permissible? Is it fine that I took the coin but donated £1 from my bank account to make it even? I would’ve donated to a halal butcher/grocery store that usually has plastic cups for donations but I don’t donate there fearing they might pocket the money. And I didn’t deposit the £1 to my bank account because I would have to go to the cashier and ask can I deposit £1 which is slightly strange so was it permissible I pocketed the £1 and donated £1 from my bank account to make it even or should I have left the coin on the seat?
By the way I would have donated to Islamic Relief UK but at the time I didn’t know you could donate as little as £1, I thought you had to select a charity package so I donated to a environment charity instead, I donate to Islamic Relief UK now if anyone is wondering.
