Greetings all!
I am an inquirer from an Eastern Orthodox Christian background. I've been finding Islam so incredibly alluring lately and I wanted to ask a few questions to you as a beginner:
- What practices can and should I incorporate into my daily life to "test the waters" of the Islam experience? I know there are daily prayers, but are those just for committed Muslims? I'd like to start praying.
- What is a good English translation of the Quran? I've been reading the one translated by Maulana Muhammad Ali, but I have heard that he was apparently a member of an unorthodox Islamic sect. Is this translation bad because of that? My biggest concern is getting study notes and introductions that are not representative of orthodox Islamic doctrine.
- Would I be welcomed if I were to visit a mosque? For context, I am basically as white as they come. I would love to get into connection with a local mosque and maybe learn from someone in person.
I've been lurking here for the last couple weeks and I have been loving your community! Thank you in advance.
