Greetings all!

I am an inquirer from an Eastern Orthodox Christian background. I've been finding Islam so incredibly alluring lately and I wanted to ask a few questions to you as a beginner:

  1. What practices can and should I incorporate into my daily life to "test the waters" of the Islam experience? I know there are daily prayers, but are those just for committed Muslims? I'd like to start praying.
  2. What is a good English translation of the Quran? I've been reading the one translated by Maulana Muhammad Ali, but I have heard that he was apparently a member of an unorthodox Islamic sect. Is this translation bad because of that? My biggest concern is getting study notes and introductions that are not representative of orthodox Islamic doctrine.
  3. Would I be welcomed if I were to visit a mosque? For context, I am basically as white as they come. I would love to get into connection with a local mosque and maybe learn from someone in person.

I've been lurking here for the last couple weeks and I have been loving your community! Thank you in advance.
