Bismillah,
When we read Surah Kahf where Musa(as) spent time with Khidr(as), one of the many lessons we learn, is that what we see isn't the whole picture. It is just a fraction of what is reality and often, most of that reality is hidden.
In Islam, when it comes to death, we're told by Allah(Swt) in the Quran:
Surah Al-Imran(3)
[145] It is not the choice of a person to die without the will of Allah, death being a time-bound destiny. Whoever seeks a reward in this world, We shall give him out of it, and whoever seeks a reward in the Hereafter, We shall give him out of it. We shall soon reward the grateful.
Not only does Allah(swt) control when a person will die, but the very date and time is set. In another verse we'll find:
Surah Al-Munafiqun (63)
[11] But Allah will never give respite to anyone, once his appointed time will come. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.
If we refer to hadith, we'll also find:
Narrated `Abdullah:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), the true and truly inspired said, "(as regards your creation), every one of you is collected in the womb of his mother for the first forty days, and then he becomes a clot for another forty days, and then a piece of flesh for another forty days. Then Allah sends an angel to write four items: He writes his deeds, time of his death, means of his livelihood, and whether he will be wretched or blessed (in religion). Then the soul is breathed into his body..........[Bukhari]
If you ask respected Ulama on the subject, you'll find:
The time of death is specific and does not change. Allah Taala says, when their time comes it will not be delayed or brought forward [source]
What is clear is that in Islam, the time a person is meant to die is fixed and we die when we're meant to die. It doesn't matter what the perceived cause, we will die when we're meant to and we can't prevent it, nor can we delay it or hasten it.
Please don't get me wrong, I am not saying don't take precautions. What I am saying is, unfortunately, many Muslims have been of the mindset that lives can be saved if we take all the precautions. That maybe a person or people could have been still alive if we did X or if we did Y. This mindset goes against what we see in Islam as shown above and is a non-Muslim viewpoint. Each person that passed away, did so when it was their time and according to the will of Allah(swt) as the Quran and hadith mention. This is something we have to understand so that our Iman is not at stake or worst jeopardized.
