I have the general idea, but I’m mostly wondering the specifics.

Does a Hafiz/Hafiza have to know the Qu’ran in translation? And if so, is it a word for word translation, or just being able to explain it?

Should you know all the letters? Should you be able to write it from memory?

Do they have to know the verse from the number? Like if you say Sura 88, verse 8, do they just pick up from there?

Is there an exam? And if there is an exam, how are they tested?

Is there a set time you have to do it in? Like if I start now, can I take 5 years? 10?

Do you have to have a teacher? Or can you start without having one?

Is it enough to just listen to recordings and copy it? (I studied languages, and I’m good at mimicking sounds/accents. so insha’Allah that will help)

I was bored and worked out, even if you only knew sura al-fatiah, you’d know over 1/1000 of the total verses. So surely, if most of us humans live to at least 60 years old, then there’s no reason to not learn the Qu’ran, and I think I’d like to do it anyways.
