My dad decided to move to Australia 30 years ago to avoid discrimination from his own ethnically homogeneous country. I was visiting him the other day and told him that I'm visiting friends today. He asks, “muslim or non muslim?".
I said “non muslim“.
He gets offended. He starts talking about how you shouldn't be friends with non muslims because they do haram, don't believe in allah and will encourage you to do the same etc.
This kind of pissed me off because he left his country for exactly the same reason that he's now preaching to me for. I said I don't believe in that and then he says “so you don't believe in Islam's teachings then?".
Are we really not allowed to have non muslim friends or is my dad going over the edge?
