As-salaam-o-Alaykum and my apologies for the little long post.
I am asking this on behalf of my friend and his relationship with his parents. I am going to ask these questions to a qualified sheikh as well but also wanted to know everyone's thought on it.
My friend is divorced have two daughters he's in his early 40's. His a good-hearted guy who always tries to please his parents, but his parents still want to control his life and most aspects of it.
He wants to get married and he was introduced to a girl and they hitted off both of them being from a conservative family wanted my friend's parents to initiate the conversation from the girls' parents. His parents never called and just made up excuses when having time we can call them and during that back and forth the girl told him that we shouldn't talk anymore. All this went down between Oct-2019 till Feb-2020.
Fast forward now my friends sister got involved at first she was going to speak with the girl and find out if she is still interested or not and also ask his parents to call the girls family and they go back to saying we'll call later etc etc.
My friends older brother is also divorced and he also married someone without asking his parents to a non-muslim and no one seems to care. When my friend is trying to get married to someone he likes and is a practicing Muslimah no one is listening to him.
Late last year I also spoke with my friend's parents and tried to convince them to call the family that conversation didnt went anywhere either. After few days of back and forth conversation his father told me they want someone for him who is located locally or within there family.
I know and also my friends knows that were supposed to be good to our parents and follow their guidance and be obidient. Now my friend is really contemplation to cut all ties with his family for a while and just be alone because his family is not going to change. I dont know how else i can help him
Jazak allah for listening
