Brawlhalla
Price: Free to play
Brawlhalla is an online PvP combat game that boasts cross-platform support and over 40 million players. The game is a 2D style beat ’em up game where players select from a set pool of characters and do battle with each other. The game features several game modes, including a four person free for all, 1v1, 2v2, and custom matches with support for odd game types like 4v4 and 1v3. In addition to the various player make ups, there are several game types. The game is almost like a mix between Mario Party and Super Smash Bros. There is plenty here to keep you occupied all day if you want. The only real issues seem to be frame drops for some players and connectivity issues for other.
Dino Fun
Price: Free / $7.49 per month / $49.99 per year
Dino Fun is a cutesy color-by-number game. It’s not competitive in the slightest and works really well as a relaxing experience to take your mind off of things for a bit. The game boasts over 1,000 pieces of pixel art with numbers so you can just color and enjoy. The controls are relatively simple and it doesn’t take long to get in there and get coloring. The only downside is the subscription service. We think it’s probably too expensive for what you’re getting, but there are plenty of free ones as well so it’s not the biggest deal.
EVE Echoes
Price: Free to play
EVE Echoes is an MMO space trader game with some RPG and strategy elements. This one is basically a mobile version of the EVE Online game for PC and while it’s not the same, it’s definitely close enough to be entertaining. Players start out small and build their empire as they play. You can form alliances, build up your ship, battle other players, manufacture goods, trade them, earn money, and plenty of other stuff. There are over 8,000 solar systems which is plenty of space for all of the game’s players. This one is super deep with a player-driven economy and enough stuff to do to last you for years. It’s a free to play game, but did you expect anything else?
Guardian Tales
Price: Free to play
Guardian Tales is an adventure-puzzle game with some other game play elements. You dive in, solve puzzles by using in-game items, and then roam around and find new stuff. The game also includes decent combat mechanics, various boss fights, and fun graphics. In addition, there is a PvP option along with a leaderboard, over 50 heroes to collect, and a customizable floating castle for each player. You can even play with a hardware controller if you want. This one is actually really fun despite its free to play price tag and easily among the very best of the month.
MazM: Pechka
Price: Free with in-app purchases
MazM: Pechka is a narrative adventure game set in Russia in the early 20th century. This one puts a much larger emphasis on narrative events rather than game play. Players explore the map and unlock various events based on true events during the collapse of Far East Russia in the early 1900’s. The game has a grungy look and feel. It fits quite well with the story. Additionally, the game play elements are fun enough to carry the player from narrative point to narrative point. It’s something a little different from the more arcade style of most mobile games.
MudRunner
Price: $5.99
MudRunner is an offroading simulator. There isn’t really too much of an objective with this one. You just pick a vehicle and drive around to explore the 16 open maps. The game boasts realistic physics and you will get stuck in the mud and have other things like that. There are some objectives to keep the player busy so you’re not just driving around doing absolutely nothing. This is a premium game with no in-app purchases, so you get everything all at once with no microtransactions. The only complaints with this one is the length. It doesn’t take too long to beat all the way through.
Sports City Tycoon
Price: Free to play
Sports City Tycoon is a simulator mixed with an idle tapper game. The goal is to build a sports city with epic sporting events and all of that stuff. You’ll build a bunch of sporting arenas, including a race track, a stadium, a tennis court, a swimming pool, and other venues. There is also a management element. In the background, there is an idle element as the city earns its own money. The graphics are decent, the free to play elements aren’t overbearing, and it’s a competently made idle clicker overall.
Super Tank Blitz
Price: Free to play
Super Tank Blitz is an online PvP game about tanks. Players collect various parts and build various tanks to combat against other players. The game has a 1v1 mode and a 2v2 mode along with various upgrades and tank parts to collect. It’s a fairly simple game on the face of it, which is nice considering how complicated some of these can be. The big feature is the tank building where you can build basically whatever you want with the available parts. Apparently, previous iterations of this game had more parts, but this one is brand new so we imagine it’ll get more parts soon. The game has some ups and downs, but it’s solid overall.
Unexpected
Price: Free / $3.99
Unexpected is a riddle game with some visual novel elements. The game contains 16 stories for the player to make it through, each with various endings and a bunch of twists and turns. Basically, you solve riddles to progress through the story. It’s not terribly difficult, but the point of a game like this is the story and not really the challenge. Some of the puzzles are poorly explained, but even so, most people seem to enjoy this one quite a bit.
WinWing
Price: Free to play
WinWing is an arcade bullet hell game. It features the classic top-down perspective and tons and tons of bullets for players to dodge. Along with that, the player gets over 100 upgrades and parts to further customize their ships. Finally, the game actually has online co-op mode so you can play with friends along with a single player campaign. It’s pretty run of the mill in terms of bullet hells when it comes to graphics, controls, and mechanics, but it still looks pretty good.
