I'm Canadian and my name is Ahmed. It's always been frustrating hearing people mispronounce my name.

My initials are ASH, this also happened to be my nickname among my friends as a child. Would it be wrong to tell my non-muslim peers to call me Ash?

I know nicknames have been a thing during the time of the prophet, for example Abu Bakr. However I believe these names were given to them by others while they were young. Not the same thing as using a different name as an adult.
