I’ve heard about a Hadith where when the Prophet (saw) noticed Jews fasting in Medina, asks why they are fasting, then upon hearing it is because it’s the day Moses liberated the Jews from Pharoah, says that Muslims should fast that day. And the day is Ashura. My question is, first of all since when is the Prophet of Islam taking knowledge from other religious groups and second, didn’t the Jews intercalate their calendar and wouldn’t that throw off which day it was? Put another way do Jews in Arabia still celebrate Ashura?
