As-salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah wa barakatu brothers and sisters.

So last night I got the news that a sister I've been friends with for 17 years (and I've only been Muslim for 4 years, not counting my time studying it via Religious Studies in academia) returned to our Lord (swt). It was a long battle with cancer and for a while there it looked like she was in remission, but it came back with a complete vengeance. She died peacefully in her sleep yesterday afternoon and her older brother called me 2 hours later to let me know.

I'm at a loss. she was my "sister from another mister." I cried for hours after l found out and immediately rushed to the masjid to prayer, cry, and read Surah ar-Rahman over and over again. I spent so much time in dua and crying in a private corner within the masjid, as well as saying "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un" 100x on my tasbih beads.

Anyway, while I know you can only read surah to the dying WHILE they're dying, does anyone have some good surahs or duas for me to recite today before and after Jummah to comfort myself? A brother from from my old masjid (I moved to another city) said to continue to keep reading ar-Rahman and also read al-Mulk and Yaseen, and of course keep on with the all Fatiha and Ayat al-Kursi. Any other surahs you could recommend and some duas you could recommend for comfort?

I'll be at the masjid all day so that I'll be "safe" so anything will help. Inshallah she and I will see each other in Jannah.
