Ayat and Hadith that teach us how to deal with insults and provocations

"وَإِذَا سَمِعُوا اللَّغْوَ أَعْرَضُوا عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا لَنَا أَعْمَالُنَا وَلَكُمْ أَعْمَالُكُمْ سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكُمْ لَا نَبْتَغِي الْجَاهِلِينَ" القصص: 55.

"And when they hear Al-Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk), they withdraw from it and say: "To us our deeds, and to you your deeds. Peace be to you. We seek not the ignorant."" Al-Qasas: 55.

"وَعِبَادُ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الَّذِينَ يَمْشُونَ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ هَوْنًا وَإِذَا خَاطَبَهُمُ الْجَاهِلُونَ قَالُوا سَلَامًا" الفرقان: 63.

"The servants of the Lord of Mercy are those who walk humbly on the earth, and who, when the foolish address them, reply, ‘Peace’" Al-Furqan: 63.

" خُذِ الْعَفْوَ وَأْمُرْ بِالْعُرْفِ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ الْجَاهِلِينَ" الأعراف: 199.

"(O Prophet,) take forgiveness (as your habit), enjoin virtue, and ignore the ignorant." Al-A'raf: 199.

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ الَّلهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ ‏صلى الله عليه وسلم: "لَيْسَ اَلشَّدِيدُ بِالصُّرَعَةِ, إِنَّمَا اَلشَّدِيدُ اَلَّذِي يَمْلِكُ نَفْسَهُ عِنْدَ اَلْغَضَبِ" مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ (رواه البخاري (6114)‏، ومسلم (2609)).

Abu Hurairah (RAA) narrated that Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said: "The strong man is not the good wrestler; but the strong man is he who controls himself when he is angry." Agreed upon (Sahih Al-Bukhari: 6114, Sahih Muslim: 2609).
