So I made a blacklist for myself of some games (imo) not really convenient for me to play with their ideas about theology generally , a bit of research on my own they are:
- God of War
- Assassin's Creed Origins Curse of Pharaohs (DLC)
- Shin Megami Tensei
- Persona (a spin-off series from SMT)
- Okami
- Xeno series
- Dragon Quest
- Others you want to add ?
And before you start accusing me of close-minded BS and "Bruh , you lost it or what ? It's just gamez !!" ....... Please hear me out first from my personal perspective and then say any criticisms you want !
IMO , if I'm going to pay money to any type of media to see my beliefs being disrespected , I won't say it's anti-Muslim or anything , it's just inconvenient for me even when the others think it's a piece of art , I don't have any problems of what the others think , I don't like the ideas in these games because that's my feeling about it.
Secondly , I'm open-minded not free-minded , which means I'm currently talking about games that tries to materialize theology , a topic that should be separated from games I play , not I'm supporting libre-thinking even when it looks stupid.
Third , there's a difference between "It makes me uncomfortable !" AND "It makes me skeptical about my religion !" , because if a game will make that effect on the player , then there's a problem.
Fourth , I still play games where there are small scattered ideas that conflicts with Islam , like Assassin's Creed for example , Altair (the protagonist of the first game) mentions in AC II documents that he thinks religion binds people minds and prevents them from thinking properly (obviously atheism) , another example from the same series is the backstory that tells about a high race before humankind that was the reason behind their existence , and as a Muslim I'm totally aware these are all work of fiction , aside from how this story flopped , yet a backstory details like these won't prevent me from enjoying the game.
Fifth , history has evidence how big this cultural difference was when Arabic poets were trying to migrate some of the Greek works to theirs , only to be offended by the Greek mythology that thought it doesn't fit their Islamic culture , because the perspectives on the topic are 180 degree different , and this still exists today in modern media.
Sixth , if you can't imagine why I don't accept these games on the list , think about a game that's main theme is about pedophilia , will you pay for a game like this ? ..... Now you will be amazed that Japanese people think that pedophilia is a funny topic that you shouldn't take seriously just like materializing a God in media = Cultural Difference.
Finally , Allah is the only knower what you were hiding in your heart from the beginning.
