There was a reason why Muhammad SAW had to reiterate that no Arab or Ajm, white or black was superior to each other.

Here is a short list of black (Afro-Arab) companions of Muhammad SAW. He saw many of them being tortured and killed by influential people of Mekkah.

1. A woman he called mother becuase of how much she cared for him as a young kid: Umm Ayman
2. His adopted son: Zaid Ibn Harith
3. His wife: Sawda bin't Zama
4. One of his closest friend: Ammar Ibn Yasir
5. First Martyr of Islam: Sumayya, mother of Ammar
6. First Muezzin of Islam: Bilal
7. Lubayna: one of the first converts to Islam. Tortured by Quraish.
8. Umm Ubays: one of the first converts to Islam. Tortured by Quraish.
9. Ayman Ibn Ubaid: Tortured by Quraish.

Note that Abu Jahl wasn't punished when he killed the Sumayyah, as was the custom in Makkah. No powerful person got punished for preying on the weak. But when the young Mu'adh and Mu'awidh took out Abu Jahl at the battle of Badr, Muhammad told her son Ammar that justice had been delivered against the murderer of his mother.
