As a Pakistani-American, I’m trying to understand as much of Islam as possible with the free time that I have, but there has always been one topic that I was confused about. I understand that marrying four wives is permissible in Islam, but if so, why not otherwise? Wouldn’t the men be put on a higher pedestal than the women by granting them the ability to marry four wives, but the women only one? A common response I get is that it would be hard to find out who is who’s child, but in this day and age, a DNA test would be an incredibly simple way to find out.
