Since I was a young child, I was always passionate about makeup. I'd sneak into my mom's bathroom and play around with her blush and lipstick until she found a new spot to hide them. This passion has only grown stronger and I'm worried I will be committing a sin if I leave the house with makeup on.
I would call myself a modest person, thanks to my dear mother who raised me well. I've been wearing hijab since I was 11 and haven't worn pants since I was 15. Growing up, I didn't understand why I had to dress the way I do until I realized the innate traits of men and women. I can now recognize that hijab and modesty stops me from falling into haram, and if I were to take my hijab off in this society I would (personally) quickly fall out of Islam.
That being said, the same idea doesn't apply when I think of makeup. I live in the United States where I'm surrounded by ladies who show a ton of skin and I definitely stand out in my predominantly white Christian town. Wearing makeup, for me, would never lead me to fall into haram as taking off my hijab would. It's a fun hobby for me and if I'm going out I like to make myself look presentable.
However, I know my personal opinions don't matter if they go against the word of Allah. I want to know what Islam says about makeup, whether it be that it's haram, makrooh, or permissable. I'd appreciate Hadith/Quran to be given and not personal opinion or bias. Jazakallah khair
