What happened to Aya Hachem was brutal and disgusting. But the response of the Muslim community was extremely appalling. I’ve lost faith in the ummah, and am disappointed in humanity from the people I least expected it from.
It’s ridiculous that a GoFundMe was deactivated solely because she was Shi’a. It’s even worse that there were people defending it by making political generalizations about how all Shi’as support Assad. It’s like saying all Sunnis support MBS. The person who killed her didn’t kill her because she was a Shi’a, she was killed because she was a hijabi Muslim.
I’m a Shi’a. Just like Sunnis, we believe there is no god except Allah (SWT), and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was his messenger. By definition that makes us Muslims. Just because we have minor differences in ideology doesn’t make us Kafirs. We believe in Allah (SWT) and only him. It’s time the Muslim ummah at large take a stand against sectarianism and start promoting unity.
