Salam.

I'm a new Muslim, about 5-ish months. Before quarantine someone at the masjid gifted me a book titled "the Ideal Muslima" I read bits of it before, but I came across this passage which frankly made me sad to read. I know husbands have the degree over women but is the degree THAT big? I thought men and women were spiritually equal.

The passage in question:

"Aishah urged women to take good care of their husbands and to recognize the rights that their husbands had over them. She saw these rights as being so great and so important that a woman was barely qualified to wipe the dust from her husband’s feet with her face, as she stated: “O womenfolk, if you knew the rights that your husbands have over you, every one of you would wipe the dust from her husband’s feet with her face.” "

I'm not trying to stir up trouble, I was just hoping there was more context behind this. JazakhAllah khayr.
