Salaam everyone,
Lately since the time we've reached the half way pt through Ramadan, a friend of mine who Ive went to school w/ back in highschool has contacted me out of the blue. It's been 5 years since I've last seen him and during this time he has come out as homosexual. He is Muslim, however like many arnd where I live, lacks what are the basic/foundational knowledge of Islam and beyond.
He calls to ask various questions about Islam, and thankfully I am able to answer 95% of them all. The remaining 5% is regarding homosexuality. He wants to call again quoting that "I make sense" - and I do enjoy spreading knowledge, but how do I come about explaining homosexuality in an Islamic perspective? We roughly went into the topic but when I realized I didn't have enough research/information to dig into this deeper, I simply told him I lacked the knowledge.
He would like another call today, and I know this will come up again. I want to explain this topic without any hurt, if possible. I feel he is coming closer to his Deen and don't want to push him any further through fear-explaining. He sounds "numb" to all this due to backlash from family and being physically and emotionally bullied from hypocritical believing brothers in Islam :(
The fact he asks for more and more calls gives me this hope that he wants to make changes to his lifestyle - which goes much beyond this topic.
Nonetheless, any sources that can help me better understand this specific topic, or any advice regarding this topic would be appreciated. Thank you
