Introduction:

Those of you who speak with Christians may not realise some of the things they get wrong about Islam, and which others specifically Christian missionaries lie about when it comes to Islam to propagate Christianity.

If you read the entire post, I hope you've learnt something new or realise what Christians use against Muslims when proselytising since was they to come up with a slightly educated Muslim with any of these claims, they would not succeed or be ignored.

(1) Taqiyya or Kitman

I had to begin my list with this.

Since if someone were to believe Muslims actually practise these to "lie to non-Muslims about Islam" or to "lie to spread Islam" then the rest of this post would be pointless.

Therefore, to begin with, I will attempt to convince any rational being who believes the above two statements out of ignorance that none of the two, is actually true.

You'll find when asking most Muslims that they only ever heard of the phrases "Taqiyah" or "Kitman" only when the right-wing Christian Zealots, missionaries, or other Islam haters (mostly the Hindu nationalists) accuse them of it.

Otherwise, to the lay Muslims who do not engage in discussions about Islam online, they wouldn't have a clue what it means.

When I first heard the two terms used against me in my teens, I was baffled. I thought to myself, what even is "taqiyya" and more confusingly, what even has a kit man got to do with Islam or Muslims?

For the only "kit man" which I know about were those who work with and handle football or hand egg kits which the athletes of both sports or more wear. So how do I even convince people that I am right and they are wrong when these same people presuppose I am already lying to them?

I guess I can try by sharing them a video of those who have all interest in making Islam look bad and have them share their opinion on the matter, so that they may come to their senses.

Therefore, I will ask these people to watch this following video by a popular FORMER Muslim who explains Taqiyah and you will notice how he does not mention it meaning something close to “holy lying” (alternatively as “holy hypocrisy” or “religious deception”) as such normally bigoted people take it to mean and claim is some sort of a central tenet of Islam that Muslims follow to lie to non-Muslims.

I would only resort to telling you to refer to former Muslims worth one's salt on this matter otherwise people will not listen to my words, so in this case, take it that it is better to listen to the words of one of your own, those who you secretly love, even if they were not to become a Christian and become a pagan or am atheist so long as they leave Islam - all good! Here you go: What Is Taqiyyah?

Maybe by taking his word for it, you will now realise that this is such a dangerous slur against Muslims so much so people actually genuinely believe in it and vilify Muslims.

The tactic is so effective that you could say to any Muslim 'your religion says so and so' and if the Muslim even remotely tries to correct you, then you can immediately shut the Muslim down and say 'you're lying, yadda yadda taqiya and kitman blah blah blah - where's my bacon oink oink!'

It's so pathetic and people who still use this slur, GROW UP. Stop poisoning the well. Stop playing a game you yourself probably do not believe deep down because you know that by not using this card, were you to engage in a real debate you would lose 9 times out of 10 as these people haven't got the remotest clue of Islam outside of the anti-Muslim and Islamic sites they visit or of the YouTubers they watch.

So now that I've shared you the semi-honest former Muslim view on it, let me share you the conclusions on the matter from these two great articles - one which is in response to the actual liar who was the person who mostly popularised this myth - Robert Spencer, and the other from a popular American Imam and Islamic scholar, Omar Suleiman.

Silencing Spencer: Taqiyya and Kitman are part of Judeo-Christian Belief:

The irony is not lost on the perceptive reader that Robert Spencer and the Islamophobes use deceptive arguments to claim that Muslims are engaging in “large-scale deception campaigns today.” It is paranoid alarmism of the worst order, designed to spread anti-Muslim sentiment. Spencer’s vitriol is similar to the anti-Muslim polemic used by the Church during the Crusades, which does not come as a surprise, considering that his book opens up with the Crusader slogan “Deus Vult!” (God wills it!) and the very last word in it is “Crusade.” What is contained between “Deus Vult!” and “Crusade” is the propaganda needed to wage this Crusade that God so willed.

Taqiyya simply means that a Muslim can renounce his faith in order to save his life from torture or death. The doctrine of taqiyya is found in Judaism, which commands its followers to save their own lives even by lying. Many Christian thinkers also believe this is something permissible. As for kitman, this means “mental reservation” (i.e. telling half the truth in order to mislead someone), and is a doctrine accepted by the Church. Kitman is also accepted in Judaism.

If Muslims are to be vilified for believing in lying and using deceit in war, then Jews are to be condemned even more for believing that lying is permissible to kill idolaters for their idolatry. If Muslims are to be vilified for allowing lying to save a life, then Christians are to be vilified more for the belief that lying is permitted to further the interests of the Church. Naturally, our opponents will baulk and cry “tu quoque, tu quoque!” They wish Islam to be judged by a standard that their own religious belief cannot withstand. These Islamophobes engage in “mental reservation” when they mention half-truths about Islam. One must wonder if Robert Spencer believes it is permissible to lie in order to further the interests of the Catholic church? Considering that he is a fervent anti-Muslim Catholic apologist, it would not be hard to believe.

Playing the Taqiyya Card: Evading Intelligent Debate by Calling all Muslims Liars:

The tactic of dismissing everything that Muslims say or do that doesn’t fit the Islamophobic narrative as “lying” has been remarkably efficient. This is the classic “poisoning of the well” fallacy; if you can’t beat the opposition with logic, then destroy their credibility prior to them offering arguments and you’ll never have to debate them. Islamophobes complain that the word “Islamophobia” is a buzzword to shut down criticism of Islam, arguing that they just want to have a critical discussion on the subject. However, they use the term taqiyya in the very same fashion to deny mainstream Muslims the right to express their own narrative which represents the vast majority of Muslims worldwide. Think about how impossible a situation this becomes: it may start with the falsehood that Muslims don’t condemn terrorism, then when the proof is put forth that they actually do (see muslimscondemn.com), they’re told that they’re lying and concealing their true intentions. So beyond the lie that all Muslims lie, is the reality that Islamophobes actually aren’t concerned about any truths concerning the Muslim community or Islam in the first place.

(2) Moon God/Worshiping the Black Stone or Kaabah

Now that the previous topic is dealt with. I shall hopefully be able to discuss MY belief in Islam without being accused of lying about it by people who do not know anything at all about Islam besides the bubble they've lived in amongst Muslim or Islam haters like themselves.

To start up, do Muslims worship a Moon God? No, we do not.

It is shocking to see how many Americans believe this myth, more so then the taqiya and kitman one.

This is because this has been heavily propagated in the past (not so much nowadays as they know it is BS and discredited) by Christian propagandists like Robert Morey who is famous for this lie and the use of deceptive methods to try and prove it.

Allah is NOT a moon GOD.

The Qur'an, Islam's central scripture even CONDEMNS worshipping the moon!

And of His Signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Do not prostrate yourselves before the sun, nor before the moon, but prostrate yourselves before Allah Who created them, if it is Him that you serve.

[Qur'an 41:37]

The commentary of the above verse, taken from a famous commentary called Tafhim al-Qur'an tells us:

They [the sun and the moon] are not the objects of divine power that you may start worshipping them, thinking that Allah is manifesting Himself in their form, but they are the signs of Allah by pondering over which you can understand the reality of the universe and its system, and can know that the doctrine of the Oneness of God which the Prophets are teaching is the actual reality. The mention of the night and day before the sun and moon has been made to give the warning that the hiding of the sun and appearing of the moon at night, and the hiding of the moon and appearing of the sun in the day clearly point to the fact that neither of them is God or object of divine power, but both are helpless and powerless objects and are moving subject to the law of God.

[The last bit of the above verse] is an answer to the philosophy that the intelligent among the polytheists [generally used to propound and prove that polytheism was rational]. They said that they did not bow to these objects but bowed to God through them. An answer to this has been given, so as to say: If you really are Allah’s worshipers, there is no need of these intermediaries: why don’t you bow down to Him directly?

Therefore, we do not worship the moon or see Allah as a manifestation of the moon. This myth needs to die and it will do so when Christians missionaries stop lying about Muslims! They fail to realise this is even an insult to Christian Arabs or Christians Jews who use the word Allah to worship God.

Moving on, with regards to the Kaabah, we do not worship that either, or the black stone at its corner.

To claim we worship the Kaabah because we face in its direction when we pray is to accuse the Prophets who faced towards where the Temple in Jerusalem was (of which Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and the early Muslims also used to do before Allah switched the direction of prayer towards the Ka'abah) of being pagans as well! You know it is false!

It is as silly as it would be if someone were to call the Jews who rejected the change to Mecca and still worship in the direction of where the Temple stood as being pagans as well! Your own Bible has many examples of people, especially the Prophets praying towards one direction (i.e. the Temple).

For facing a certain direction to pray (Qibla) is what all nations did pre the advent of the Qur'anic revelation which switched the direction of prayer from Jerusalem to the Kaabah in Mecca. Islam simply says the one in Mecca was the original House of Prayer that was built by Ishamel and his father Abraham while they were in the wilderness in Paran before it was switched to Jerusalem during the reign of Prophet Soloman عليه السلام as we read in the Bible at 1 Kings 6:1 as it was during this time people started to pray towards the Temple which 1 Kings 8:29-30 & 1 Kings 8:35 tells us.

Also, there are several more verses which show that there was a Qibla for believers before the advent of the Qur'an such as Psalm 5:7 and Psalms 28:2 amongst others.

The reasons why we pray in one language and face in one direction during the five prayers is to distinguish the Muslims from the non-Muslims (as in the Jews and all else who face in different directions) and to show unity in religion.

As for the black stone, this saying by the second Muslim ruler after the passing of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم says it all:

‘Abis ibn Rabi’ah reported: Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, came to the black stone and he kissed it. Umar said, “Verily, I know you are only a stone with no power to harm or benefit me. Were it not that I saw the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, kiss you, I would not have kissed you.”

Sources: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1520, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1270

Graded: Muttafaqun Alayhi (authenticity agreed upon) according to Al-Bukhari and Muslim

It would also be interesting to note how the black stone in of itself was STOLEN for 23 years by the Qarmatians and was brought back through a huge random afterwards.

Did worship stop during these 23 years facing the Kaabah? NO.

So we do not worship the Kaabah or the black stone. End of debate.

(3) Claims of anachronism via the story of the calf and Aaron

This is another famous lie shared by shameless Christians and orientalists who have nothing better to do than attack Islam with the weakest of arguments.

This lie is based upon the verses in the Qur'an wherein it exonerates Prophet Aaron عليه السلام from the lies made against him by the Old Testament whereby it reads he built the golden calf for the Israelites to worship near Mount Sinia. We see the exoneration here where Allah quotes what Prophet Aaron عليه السلام said to the Israelites while they were being misled by a man, a man called Samiri:

Certainly Aaron had said to them even before (the return of Moses): "My people, you were fallen into error because of the calf. Surely your Lord is Most Compassionate; so follow me and obey my command."

[Qur'an 20:90]

Just five verses earlier, Allah tells Moses عليه السلام He had tested his people in his absence and that the Simiri led them astray:

Said He: "Verily We tested your people in your absence and the Samiri led them astray."

[Qur'an 20:85]

I will relate once more the famous contemporary commentary on the above verse from Tafhim al-Qur'an:

It is obvious from the last Arabic letter ‘ya’ that Samiri was not the proper name of the person, for this Arabic letter is always added to show a person’s connection with his race or clan or place. Moreover, the prefix al (definite article ‘the’) in the original Arabic text clearly denotes that the Samiri was a particular man from among many other persons of the same race or clan or place, who had propagated the worship of the golden calf. In fact, this does not require any further explanation than this, but this has been necessitated because many Christian missionaries and the Western Orientalists have tried to criticize the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the Qur'an on this account.

They say, (God forbid,) "This is a proof of the grievous ignorance of history on the part of Muhammad (peace be upon him), the author of the Qur'an, and is one of the anachronisms of the Qur'an.

They base this absurd criticism on the assumption that this Samiri was the inhabitant of Samaria, the capital of the ancient kingdom of Israel, which was built in 925 B.C long after this happening; then centuries after this, a generation of the Samaritans came into existence as a result of intermarriage between the Israelites and the non-Israelites. As the Samaritans worshipped the golden calf, the critics accuse the Prophet (peace be upon him) of inventing this story on the basis of mere hearsay.

They say that the Prophet (peace be upon him) might have heard something like this from the neighbouring Jews and inserted it in the Quran. That is not all. They also criticize that Haman who was a courtier of Cyrus has been mentioned in the Quran as a minister of Pharaoh. It is a pity that these so-called scholars seem to think that in the ancient times there used to be only one person bearing one name in a clan or a place, and there was absolutely no possibility of another person or persons having the same name. They do not know, or pretend they do not know, that during the time of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him), a famous people known as the Sumerians inhabited Iraq and the neighbouring regions, and it is just possible that during the time of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) there were some people known as the Samiris who might have migrated to Egypt from Iraq. Besides this, according to the Bible (1 Kings, 16: 24), Samaria itself was built on a hill which was bought from Shemer and named Samaria after him. This is a clear proof that there were people named Shemer (or Sumer) even before Samaria came into existence and it is also just possible that some clans might have been called Samiri

I should also note, the Bible in of itself is logically inconsistent on this very story that Aaron led the Israelites to commit a great sin he himself committed.

Let me explain, the Bible says it is a great sin to build idols and worship idols.

Aaron in the Bible did this big sin by building the calf for all Israelites to worship.

The Lord was angry at Aaron as he was with all the others amongst the Levites who partook in it.

The Lord said those who sinned will have their name blotted out of the book. This would mean Aaron too.

The Lord ordered those who did these great sins amongst the Levites to be slain by one another in which about 3000 men died. Aaron was the ring leader of this and was the main culprit.

Aaron was also a Levite.

This means if we follow logically, he should have had his name taken from the book for committing a big sin and also because he was the main person responsible he should have been slain like the other Levites by their brothers, in this case, Moses عليه السلام but we do not see that either. His name is obviously still in the book, he did not die on that night, and worse of all the book of Numbers even honour Aaron!

Therefore, if Aaron عليه السلام committed such a great sin, and not someone else, we see something illogical happen right here alone.

Something which is a claim the Qur'an exonerates Aaron from (all praise be to the One God alone).

(4) Sister of Aaron

Following up on Aaron is another bit of lies spread by Christian missionaries.

Which is the claim that Muhammad confused Miriam who is the sister of Aaron with Maryam who is the mother of Jesus.

Then she came to her people, carrying her baby. They said: "O' Mary! You have committed a monstrous thing [fornication/adultery].

O sister of Aaron! Your father was not an evil man, nor was your mother an unchaste woman."

[Qur'an 19:27-28]

With regards to this claim, it should be noted that unlike the above 3 claims, this was not a new claim.

The contemporary Christians of Najran themselves addressed this to Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم in which it follows in the below report:

Mughira b. Shu'ba reported:

When I came to Najran, they (the Christians of Najran) asked me: You read "O sister of Aaron" (i. e. Hadrat Maryam) in the Qur'an, whereas Moses was born much before Jesus. When I came back to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) I asked him about that, whereupon he said: The (people of the old age) used to give names (to their persons) after the names of Apostles and pious persons who had gone before them.

Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2135

Graded: Sahih (authentic) in Muslim

So what we see here is Muhamamd صلى الله عليه وسلم explains this by saying the people at the time of Mary, used to call one another after the names of apostles and those who were pious that had gone before them.

People who claim Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم made this excuse up as he was caught red-handed or something as absurd as this, well let's look at your own Bible or the Bible itself.

Jesus is called the Son of David in multiple verses. There is a verse where even an entire crowd calls him the Son of David in Matthew 21:9 but some will say, 'the Messiah should be called the Son of David so this isn't something special, and that is why they called him that!'

I agree, but does that also excuse away the very fact that an angel came to Joseph, in Matthew 1:20, and called him by the usage of the word "Son of David" as well? No.

Let me dig this point in, even more, as I'd like to point that the Bible called Mary's own cousin Elizabeth, the wife of Zachariah, in Luke 1:5 as one of “the daughters of Aaron” in the KJV so there is without a doubt absolutely no error on part of the Qur'an or Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم contrary to the claims of Christian missionaries.

The usage of "sister of Aaron" it is in perfect harmony with the Semitic languages and ancient custom.

(5) Wrong Trinity

This is the most popular trope I've got from many Christians and Islam haters. Again, like the above 4, it is a LIE.

They base this lie in particular from this verse of the Qur'an:

And imagine when thereafter Allah will say: 'Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to people: "Take me and my mother for gods beside Allah?" and he will answer: "Glory to You! It was not for me to say what I had no right to. Had I said so, You would surely have known it. You know all that is within my mind whereas I do not know what is within Yours. You, indeed You, know fully all that is beyond the reach of human perception.

[Qur'an 5:116]

At first glance, they seem to have a point. Because it does come across as if the Trinity is mentioned, except it ain't. The concept of Trinity is not mentioned in this verse but the Trinity is explicitly referred too in only one very earlier verse from the same chapter, which follows:

Those who said: 'Allah is one of the Three', certainly they disbelieved, for there is no god save the One God. And if they do not give up this claim, all who have disbelieved among them shall be subjected to painful chastisement.

[Qur'an 5:73]

Now, this may come across as an appalling response as one could say it doesn't have to mention it explicitly to infer it means the trinity, but this is false as well as I will put this claim to bed with just one more verse, don't you worry.

I shall quote the following verse to show the Trinity was not being mentioned in that verse but the practice of Mariolatry as being addressed and afterwards, if to claim it was the Trinity, you have a problem.

They have taken their scholars and monks as lords besides Allah, and [also] the Messiah, the son of Mary. And they were not commanded except to worship one God; there is no deity except Him. Exalted is He above whatever they associate with Him.

[Qur'an 9:31]

Therefore we can see that when the Qur'an talks about Mary being taken as a Deity besides Allah and Jesus it was not talking about the Trinity but Mariolatry. To now say it mentions Mary in a Trinity is to also make the claim that the Qur'an also says the Trinity is "Allah, the rabbis and the monks". As the use of the WORD Trinity is not used either in the Mary verse or this one.

What is interesting is, when that above verse was revealed this what happened (quoting from the same commentary book mentioned above on this very verse):

“They have taken their rabbis and monks as their lords”. The Prophet (peace be upon him) himself explained its true significance. According to a tradition, when Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him), who was formerly a Christian, came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) with the intention of understanding Islam, he asked several questions in order to remove his doubts. One of these was: “This verse accuses us of taking our scholars and monks as our lords. What is its real meaning? For we do not take them as our lords.”

As a reply to this, the Prophet (peace be upon him) put him a counter-question: “Is it not a fact that you accept as unlawful what they declare to be unlawful, and lawful what they declare to be lawful?” Adi confessed, “Yes, it is so.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, “This amounts to making them your lords.” Incidentally, this tradition shows that those who themselves set limits to the lawful and the unlawful without the authority of Allah’s Book, assume for themselves the rank of Godhead, and those who acknowledge their right of making laws take them as their lords.

It should be noted that they have been charged with: (a) attributing sons to Allah, and (b) giving the right of making laws to others than Allah. These are to prove that their claim that they believed in Allah is false, even though they should believe in His existence. But such a wrong conception of Allah makes their belief in Allah meaningless.

Conclusion

We see that Christian missionaries and other Islam/Muslim haters have done a great job at confusing peoples minds about Islam.

They have people believe Muslims lie to them and are not to be trusted at all. They have people believe that Muslims are pagans and they worship the Kaabah or the black stone. They have people believe that the Qur'an thought the Samaritans existed at the time of Exodus. They have people believe the Qur'an confuses itself between two Mary's, be it the mother of Jesus and the sister of Aaron (Miriam). And last but not least, they spread the lie that the Qur'an messes up on the Trinity.

Needless to say, these people need to fix up. Those who share their arguments need to as well.
