Rulings on visiting the dead a year after their death to remember them and read Quran for them......?

This is something a group of my friends want to orchestrate and I can’t help but feel it is a bid’ah (innovation).

A great brother from our community died last year and his “death anniversary” is tomorrow. I was asked to come by and read Quran with a group of people.

Can someone explain whether or not this is permissible ? Also please provide proof.
