I'm interested in buying stocks and I just wanted to know if they were halal?

And if anyone has resources on how to get into this kind of stuff?

I'm kind of over my head here.

Currently I have low risk investments and I want to up my game. My advisor said that you can take the interest earned and donate it that way you don't do "haram" but they arent Muslim so I don't know how accurate that is.
