The media is propagating the lie that this was the first time in history, causing panic across the world.

Some examples:

• 865 AD (251 H): The Abbasids slaughter Al-Imam Isma'il bin Yusuf (RA) and all his supporters on the mountain of 'Arafah a few days before Hajj season and it is discontinued.

• 930 AD (317 H): The Qarmatians raided the Ka'ba, murdered over ten thousand pilgrims,and stole the Black Stone, which was missing for 22 years afterwards.

• 983 AD+ (372 H+): for several years, skirmishes and wars between Bani Obaid and Abbasids cause the restriction of Egyptians, Iraqis, and even Hijazis from attending Hajj, in varying intervals.

• 1814 AD (1230 H): A plague hits Hijaz and 8,000 Hijazis die. Hajj discontinued.

• 1831 AD (1246 H): An indian plague kills 3/4ths of all pilgrims. Hajj interrupted.

• In fact, the entirety of the 19th century was full of several interruptions and discontinuities due to bacterial outbreaks like Cholera, and viral ones in all of: 1837, 1846, 1858, 1864, and 1892. All of which caused thousands of deaths.
