Hello, looking at the texts within the Quran it is clear that men and women are viewed equally under Allah.
However, certain traditions and legislation do not reflect this. Is this influenced more by societal interpretation of the Quran or by the political ideals that is characteristic of that region?
In regards to changes in laws that have been based on sharia, what are the reasoning behind these changes? Are they because of an evolving understanding of sharia or because of the pressure from society to make such changes (an example would be guardianship laws in Saudi Arabia).
I've only just begun studying the history of Islam and Islamic societies so I would like if someone could help me understand. Thank you!
