The Qur'an often describes paradise as where Muslims will recline on cushions and fine carpets, with rivers flowing beneath them. It talks about the houris, females untouched by man or jinn. Why? I doubt many of us today care for cushions and carpets, and I don't see why talking about houris is relevant since you can have whatever you want in paradise anyways.
My initial conclusion was that these were meant to act as motivators for the Arabs at the time of the prophet, but shouldn't they remain applicable today since the Qur'an is the eternal miracle of God?
55:76 (Sahih International)
"Reclining on green cushions and beautiful fine carpets."
56:35-38 (Sahih International)
"Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation"
"And made them virgins,"
"Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age,"
My apologies for any grammar/spelling mistakes I made, typed this up quickly before bed (I'll proofread it later)
