Salaam,
I drifted away from Islam growing up. I in fact became a militant ex muslim. I am however reconsidering my decision but I had to explore the OT and the NT.

I had an evangelist friend preach christianity to me and he told me that both the OT and the NT are valid. I remember that Islam preaches that the Bible has been corrupted. After reading a lot of the OT, I can see that the god of the Old Testament sounds like an Israeli warhead. Is this who Allah is?

For example (I'll paraphrase for some):

2 Chronicles 15:12-13: They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.

Exodus 31:12-15: Kill who works on the Sabbath because it's a holy day to god.

Isaiah 14:21: Make ready to slaughter his sons for the guilt of their fathers; Lest they rise and posses the earth, and fill the breadth of the world with tyrants.

Isaiah 13:15-18: Anyone who is captured will be run through with a sword. Their little children will be dashed to death right before their eyes. Their homes will be sacked and their wives raped by the attacking hordes. For I will stir up the Medes against Babylon, and no amount of silver or gold will buy them off. The attacking armies will shoot down the young people with arrows. They will have no mercy on helpless babies and will show no compassion for the children.

Exodus 21:20-21: When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property.

Here's where I think the OT's god is an Israeli warhead:

Leviticus 25:44-46:

However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way.

The Quran has a much different narrative of who Allah is. It portrays him as a very just God who does not discriminate based on Hebrew and Gentile. Rather, he invites everyone to believe in him no matter who they are.

Can you please tell me if I Allah actually used to be like this and if he is still like this?

From my recollection, there is no original sin in Islam. However, the concept of animal sacrifice in Islam is quite different. In the OT, the animal sacrifice is to be burnt because the lord LOVES the smell of burning flesh. In islam, animal sacrifices are used to feed the poor.

I know it's the wisest to just stick to Islamic scripture but I had to look at the alternatives before justifying Islam's way of life.

Thank you so much for your time.
