I've been wondering if it is for a long time, although I could never come to the conclusion.
The argument could be made that people who have pirated the media didn't pay for it as the creators intended so it is therefore haram.
What about BIOS in video game emulators though? Can we just buy the game and pirate the BIOS in the emulator?
Is it haram differentiating from media to media? Such as songs, TV shows, software.
The argument could be made that whoever posted the pirate in the first place has the media and can, therefore, do anything with it like share it with others or put it online.
