Al salamu aleykum friends.
I am ashamed to admit that I recently realized how basic my knowledge on Islamic history was when a class discussion ensued on the topic of Muslim caliphates (Umayyad and Abbasid more specifically) in which I wasn't able to support my statements with sources. Much of what I know comes from childhood stories from parents and kids books.
So I am looking to expand my knowledge on our history on a more academic level and would very much appreciate it if anyone can recommend any books and/or podcasts on any period and region starting with the 4 Rashidun Caliphs till present day. JAK.
