Why every Indian is protesting today?
We have come to the point that almost every Indian is protesting against Citizenship Amendment Act(CAA) and National Register of Citizenship(NRC). But why are we protesting it?
The reason is that arbitrary bill passed by BJP government which says that any illegal immigrant from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh can get Indian Citizenship if he is Hindu, Sikh and other religions EXCEPT MUSLIMS. So this has closed the door of Muslim refugees in India. But this is not about refugees now. This act along with NRC can be used as vindictive vendetta against India's own muslim population. Those muslims who are living in India are also affected with this.
When NRC will be implemented, then on certain date criteria people from India's own population will be excluded from NRC list. This list will have both Indian muslims and Hindus. But since we have already applied Citizenship Amendment Act(CAA), a Hindu should not need to have worry about citizenship and CAA give them priviliage here. From which a Indian muslim is deprived. This has created a huge inequality between Hindus and Muslims. And violated the Article 14 of our constitution which provides freedom of Equality against religion.
Lets take another example.
Lets assume there is Muslim man Abdul. Abdul ji was born in 1972 in Assam. He has passport, voter ID, Adhar card, Driving license, paying water and electricity bills and taxes since his jobs. But Due to insufficient documents,lack of documents,lost documents or due to any reason he cannot prove that his deceased father was from India or cannot proved his relation with his father in Assam NRC.
Now take another man, A hindu man named Raju. Raju was born in bangladesh in 1972. Raju was never Indian citizen. But he is a Hindu. Raju somehow crossed the border and end up in Assam in 2012. Since Raju cannot prove anything coz he was never a Indian, he will be get excluded in Assam NRC too.
Now we have two people. Both excluded from Assam NRC and both are now illegal immigrant. Point to note here Muslim man was Indian born and was Indian citizen since then. But now he is not. And since our Hindu man has already crossed the border, obviously he was not Indian citizen. Now question is who deserves to be Indian Citizen. Well obviously we will say Indian muslim. But here comes the twist. Since CITIZENSHIP AMENDMENT ACT is applied. Abdul will be declared illegal immigrant since muslims are excluded from CAA, where Raju will get Indian citizenship as CAA provided provision for including Hindus.
THIS IS THE INEQUALITY.
And that's why everyone, every Indian, every student of every educational institution out there is protesting now. This act along with NRC has created a huge inequality between two religions of India, which is against the constitution and its every fundamental on which constitution stands. Students , people, everyone is not fool out there protesting for nothing. These are not any political protests. These are protests against discrimination. Discrimination with the people of country. Today, Muslims are excluded, then they will come for Sikhs, then Dalits, then Shudras and go on. This will never stop if we dont stop it right now.
Indians are protesting for our rights of equality and against discrimination.
