As it say, I have a friend who wants to convert, but has a few questions. I tried my best to answer them, but I figured putting them out here for more input was a good idea. I have changed some wording or added things here and there as well to contextualize or better get her point across. I should also mention that I am a convert (for about two years now), so if I say anything incorrect, please let me know! I'm always looking to learn.

  1. If I want to convert, but being publicly Muslim would put me in danger (her parents are very Islamophobic), what can I do? (I know some communities say you can hide your faith if it presents a safety risk, as mine does, but I was hesitant to say for certain that converting before she was able to practice publicly was a good idea)

  2. If I accidentally do something haram, (i.e. eat something with pork in it without knowing pork was in it,) will I still get punished for it? [I told her no to this because of what it says in 33:5, I was just hoping for confirmation]

  3. If I can't go to a mosque or otherwise interact with a muslim community in real life, where should I go for resources (preferably online) to learn about how to be a proper member of the Ummah?

  4. Is Islam really as intolerant of the LGBTQ community as it's made out to be? (This one was a bit tough for me because my local community is very progressive, but I don't want to give her the idea that all communities in the US -where we both live- are going to be as progressive as mine.)

If she asks any more questions I may add them to the comments or edit this post. Thank you for your help!
