Hi friends,

I'm hoping to learn more about Islam. I was raised as a Christian and have learned a bit about Islam, but there are a number of questions remaining I haven't heard answers I found satisfying, and wanted to ask for your advice about the best resources to learn about Islam. Most of my concerns are related to controversial issues I'm sure you are all familiar with--the authenticity of the Quran, justification for the initial conquests, how Islam understands gender equality, etc.

Many of the online sources I found were lacking in intellectual rigor--i.e. they ignored inconvenient facts without justification. So I'm hoping to find some resources written by scholars who are open about their sources and the weaknesses of those sources, and deal with opposing views honestly and openly, rather than through strawmen. I'm most interested in text based learning--books or web resources, not videos. Mods, if this is an inappropriate question, please let me know why.

Thank you kindly for your help.
