This came up in a post about the downfall of Muslims over the past few centuries. And the answers have constantly been around the lines of "we just need to go back to religion and rule like the Rashidun". Ok. What does that mean? What does it look like? How can it be applied to modern states with modern problems? What do elections for Shura look like? Is there separation of legislative, judiciary and executive branches of government? How are public services organized? What kind of public services are offered? Where do personal rights and freedoms start? Where does personal responsibility and duty begin? What does the political, social, economic structure look like?

I just feel these are terms people throw around like some magic solution without actually understanding what such a polity would look like, nor how it would function on a day to day. Any time we have seen some group or other try to impose what they define as a Caliphate Rashidun state, we end up with horrors and misery and suffering for the people. That cannot be Islamic and fair and timeless.

Thoughts?
