There are a handful of verses in the Qur'an that say stuff about fighting disbelievers. I am well aware of the context of each verse and of the verses that tell you not to transgress. But many schools of thought believe that Offensive Jihad is fard for a nation. By offensive Jihad, I mean that an Islamic nation goes to a disbelieving nation, invites them to islam, and than if they refuse, you go to war with them.

  • Hanafi: Jihad is Fard Kifaya to start, meaning that if the unbelievers do not fight us it is our duty to fight them.
  • Maliki: Qurtubi wrote that it is an obligation for the leader to send one or two invasions that he leads or assign someone he trusts to lead.
  • Shafi'i: It is at the very least required once a year, but if there is a need to delay it because of weakness in the Muslims then it is permissible to delay.
  • Hanbali: At the least once a year, but if more than once is necessary then that must be done.

Qurtubi in his tafsir for 9:29, says that this description means that you fight all disbelievers

فأمر سبحانه وتعالى بمقاتلة جميع الكفار لإصفاقهم على هذا الوصف

Translation:

Thus the almighty commanded the fighting of all the Kuffar as this description applies to them.

Is there an authoritative tafsir that prevents forward aggression? Is there anything in Islam that prohibits conquering in the name of it? It feels like the majority of scholars believe that fighting (qatl) is ordained onto Muslims.

I am Muslim in need of help and someone knowledgeable.
