One of my close friend is suffering from serious depression and he really needs help. But we live in another country, which is neither English nor Muslim-friendly. Therapy even for native speakers is extremely expensive, and has a huge stigma towards it. He's arab from the middle east and male so it's even worse for him. He's really fallen off his deen and becoming an alcoholic. He uses alcohol to escape from his problems, and because he drinks so much, he has a high tolerance. And so needs more alcohol to get even a little drunk, and spends so much money, and then he's broke. He doesn't do anything else for fun anymore except playing games locked up at home, when he's not out socializing. He's not taking care of his health or eating properly, he eats junk and doesn't know how to cook anything. He didn't even go to the mosque during last Ramadan and he never prays anymore.
It's odd because i'm a convert, and anytime i have questions I can ask him and he'll tell me what i should or can or cannot do or explain to me stories from the hadiths etc since he grew up in Medina (Mecca) and was of course very heavily educated on these things. I don't take inspiration from his behavior though, since i know better. but as a friend, and like a younger brother to me, i'm worried about him. I couldn't get him to talk to the imam even if i drugged him and dragged him there, and i don't think he's the right person to help him with serious mental health problems.
He's agreed to get therapy but the problem is accessing it. He would prefer to get counseling from an Arabic speaker than an English therapist. Are there any online services that could provide this? Preferably one with Islamic knowledge who can help him get back on his deen without being too condescending and not ignorantly blame all his sadness and life problems on him sinning and not praying.
