A khul’ is a form of divorce specific to woman
It is sometimes informal - meaning the husband and the wife agree on it amicably and, after some conditions, they separate.
And it is sometimes more formal, usually when the husband refuses to accept the divorce. The wife then goes to a jurist, and the jurist, after overseeing the issue and sees harm, annuls the marriage. The scholars differed on some small details.
