My friends job needs him to shave his beard for his job, but they will let him keep it if he can give them a specific religious reasoning. Any help/advice?

Assalamualykum,

I am in need of some advice. My friend is currently growing out his beard as it is sunnah, however, the job is telling him he needs to shave it off. He may be allowed to keep it if it is for religious reasons. He is looking for an accurate way to tell them that he must keep it, but also one that doesn't just say, my prophet tells me so. He is looking for the reasoning behind the hadith. (this is in the United States btw).
