Common Mistakes Made By Those Who Become More Relgious.

What do i mean by this ...

You have a brother or sister who has now decided to give up His/ Her vices for the sake of Allah (alhamdulilah) after many years of .. how should i put it. Living their "so called" best life lets say

Mistake #1 - After a year or 2 you get frustrated at those close to you not also changing at the same pace and you start to deal with them in a harsh way and judging them and become more preachy.

Solution - Its not up to you who Allah guides all you can do is treat others with kindness and enjoin the good and forbid the evil leave the rest to Allah. Remember you were just like them not long ago use that to your advantage to show them the positive change in you not the negative.

Mistake #2 - You try and do too much too soon, You've realised that you missed out on so many benefits in the deen that you didn't know about and now you want to play catch up.

Solution - My advice is to work work on 2 things 1. Beneficial Knowledge i.e what you're saying in salat or sunah of the prophet etc 2. Work on your character i.e how to treat others and controlling your tongue.

Mistake #3 - You start to get into debates about the religion. The term "stay in your lane" is so appropriate to use in this case that i can't stress it enough.

solution - giving dawah should be as simple as possible and if someone asks you a question about the deen trying to catch you out or if you don't know the answer then don't let your pride stop you from saying "i don't know". Never try to give your own explanation to anything this is very dangerous.

Mistake #4 - You start to publicize every good deed you're doing unintentionally. "i read 3 surahs today" "i can't right now i'm doing Zikr" "I was praying all night and now i'm tired"

Solution - Mashallah but to some people this might come across as showing off. just go about it naturally don't say too much.

Mistake #5 - You become indoctrinated into a certain strand of islam and you adopt their "my way or the highway" philosophy.

Solution - Try not to blindly follow anyone from one masjid, keep an open mind and take knowledge from many different places as you can and if you do then try to be a bit more balanced in your approach to the deen.
