Hi, new to the sub and Islam. I’m trying to get a better understanding of certain controversial topics, one of which I’ve been stumped on. I always thought that Islam preached and encouraged the freedom to believe what you want without consequence and was against forcing religion on others (“there is no compulsion in religion”).
Like in the Quran, they don’t fight non-muslims to enforce their beliefs on them, they fight to defend themselves. So why is it that you can’t change to another religion if you’re already muslim? It says the consequence is death. Is that not compulsion? The fear of death.
