I have a sort of philosophical issue with possessions which is that they provide absolute and concrete proof of God and islam if possessions are true.
Right now, I use reason and logic to know God as God instructed. I was not given a supernatural miracle but instead I have faith. Now, if I saw something of the supernatural realm like a Jinn, that would provide me with evidence that the supernatural exists. If I go back to step 1) which is that I reject all religions as being false except islam. I know islam to be the most reasonable and logical and therefore I have faith through logic and reason that it is true and I believe this type of logic and reasoning allows me to know islam is true. It is however not built on empirical evidence. So the question remains for me, is islam true and does God exist? I believe he does but I do not have evidence. If a Jinn possession occurs and if I see a Jinn in whatever form or if I experience the supernatural, that confirms islam for me and there is no longer a need for me to have faith because I know have undeniable evidence. Just like if I asked God for a supernatural miracle and he grants it, I know have evidence. So the purpose of faith is now comprised because it's no longer faith. It's evidence.
I don’t think possessions can occur because it would undermine faith as it provides me with evidence that the supernatural exists. How does possessions not undermine the entire understanding of faith? If jinns exist then you therefore know God exists because if one aspect of Islam is proven for you, then everything is.
