As anybody who has been paying attention to the media knows, a CGI remake of The Lion King has just been released in theaters. I just watched it yesterday, and it has reignited my lifelong interest in one of my favorite animals-namely hyenas.
While the hyenas in The Lion King are the spotted species, I am also fond of striped hyenas as well, and was interested to read on Wikipedia that striped hyenas are seen as physical forms of jinns in Islam. They are also apparently seen as disgusting grave robbers, whose flesh is haram, and as symbols of deception and stupidity.
Is this true? What other views do Muslims hold towards hyenas? And just for the sake of it, anyone seen that remake yet?
