Asalaam O Alaikum!
So, here's what's up. I've known for a good while now that I want to become a writer as a career. I'm 17 so I'm going into college soon. I want to start out as a journalist and become a novelist eventually. I know muslims in general tend to be weary of jobs that put us in th public eye, at the very least in my family/community. My family is supportive, but they also warn me against putting out harmful content and becoming a nad influence, as that can become a sin. I feel know the general rules. No writing with bad words, explicit content, racist/bigoted content. But what if I want to write about or tackle a taboo? I've always wanted to write about things like bullying, and depression and I want to write murder mysteries and spy novels. But these subjects can become pretty taboo and I'm worried about puttinf out misinformation. 13 Reasons Why is a good example of art that was made with good intentions but had bad results. I know lots of artsy muslims out there want to explore controversial subjects but are unsure of how to go about it. My goal at the end of the day is to provide a source of entertainment that's well written and halal in world where all forms of entertainment are plagued with inappropriate content. I believe I am a good writer (even though I'm having trouble wording this post lol) because Allah SWT blessed me with the skill. How do I, along with other artistically gifted muslims, use our skills and talents for good?
My general questions are: 1. What are the general dos and don'ts of writing stories in Islam? 2. How should one tackle dark, complicated subjects in art in a tasteful and islamic manner?
Would really love it if someone could find Qur'an or Hadith or even Scholars/Academia related to the Islamic perspective towards art, like what is halal and haram in different forms of art, etc.
