As Salam Alaikum My Dear Brothers,
Just today at the masjid I saw something that almost brought me to tears and depression.
A young Muslim brother between the age of 18-21 was present for the isha prayer. Because of the skin-tight clothes he was wearing, it was clear that mashAllah he was very well-built, and he wasn't exactly shying away from showing off his physique. In fact, as soon as the prayer was over, he was the first to stand up among the musalleen slowly motioning his limbs and displaying the tone and texture of his muscles
Few moments later when everyone stood up to do their sunnahs, this brother also started his sunnahs. As I observed to my dismay and depression, the brother was not just looking around in his prayer, but his tight clothes were preventing him from fully carrying out the physical gestures of salah. The most awful scene, however, which literally sent chills down my spine, was when I saw him doing the sajdah: As he tried to lower his head in what is supposed to be the gesture of utmost humility to Allah and submission to Him, he was being prevented from doing so because of those very clothes (and perhaps more so due to arrogance and haughtiness) to a point that while what appeared to be a sajdah was FAR from it in essence and appearance.
I cannot tell you just how dreadful it was to witness that one inch of empty space between his forehead and the ground, and how loudly that spoke of the reality of our Muslim Youth, the reality of our Iman, the reality of this Ummah, and the reality of our lack of effort to change things. I cannot tell you how horrifically and obnoxiously loud that one inch of space spoke of how far we have come from the way of our Prophet Muhammad (S) and his companions.
I write this email to you because you brothers are put in a place by Allah swt to make a difference. What Allah swt has made available to us, He hasn't blessed others with. Let us wake up to the reality around us, the responsibility of the ummah before us, and the magnitude of the challenge ahead of us.
There are no more prophets and we must shoulder the responsibility of the reformation of this ummah. It begins with Ourself.
