I've used drug dealing in this example because this is something that i'm seeing in my community.
You have guys who know that what they are doing is Haram but because they buy their mum and dad a few things they think this will benefit them or somehow offset the haram. I'm here to tell you that you are deluded if you think a single penny of Illegal drugs money will benefit you in this life. Someone working at burger king earning minimum wage is far more beloved to allah than you will be with £1m in your account of haram money.
Another delusion is that they convince themselves that if they save up enough to finally get out the game they can then try to turn their life around and retire ... NOPE !!!. think again, as long as that money was from the haram you are making it worse for yourself.
Prohibited money is a deep topic but i just wanted to highlight this aspect of it because so many of our young kids aspire to live that lifestyle because of what they see in music videos and in movies.
here's a discussion that blew my mind away when it comes to prohibited money
The concept of ‘prohibited wealth’ is so far-reaching that the scholars have even discussed the ruling of an employee praying voluntary units without the permission of his employer. For the obligatory prayer, there is no problem in this. university lecturers, for example, who purposely arrive late to lectures that they’re being paid to deliver; or those who use their work hours to do their shopping, to recreationally surf the internet, engage in other business ventures, or take their children somewhere; then this is money that – in many cases – has not been worked for, and may come under the same heading of ‘prohibited wealth’. Do you now see just how encompassing the expression of ‘prohibited wealth’ actually is?
so whats the solution ?
Let's say you turn your life around but you want to get rid of this money what should you do ?
- you can give the money away BUT your intention is not to seek reward from it.
- the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “The one who repents from sin is like the one who never sinned.” [Ibn Majah]

Due to the prohibited wealth that you refused to avoid, you have successfully managed to close the door of charity between you and Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā). The fact that Zakāh comes under this category should terrify us. The Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) said:
من جمع مالا حراما، ثم تصدق به، لم يكن له فيه أجر، وكان إصره عليه
“Whoever accumulates prohibited wealth, then gives out in charity from it, he will not be rewarded for it and will have to bear the consequences of it.” [6]
“How is it that my charity will not help purify me from my sins?” I hear you ask. Sufyān al-Thawri answers:
من أنفق الحرام في الطاعة كمن طهر الثوب بالبول والثوب لا يطهره إلا الماء، والذنب لا يكفره إلا الحلال
“Whoever spends prohibited wealth in avenues of goodness is just like a person who cleans his clothes with urine. Clothes cannot be purified with anything but water, and sins cannot be erased with anything but the Halāl.”
Ibn Mas’ood (Radiyallaahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, “A slave (of Allah) who acquires haraam wealth and gives charity from it, it is not accepted from him. If he spends from it, he does not have any blessing (barakah) in it. If he leaves it behind him (i.e. he dies) it will be a means of taking him to the fire (of Hell). Verily, Allah does not wipe out evil deed with evil deed; instead, He wipes out evil deed with good deed. Indeed, the repulsive does not wipe out the repulsive.” (Musnad Ahmad, Sharh As-sunnah; Mishkaatul Masaabih pg. 242, Qadeemi)
