Salam,

I consider myself fairly strict about eating halal/zabihah. I only eat meat which was slaughtered properly in the name of Allah, by Muslims, in a Muslim owned-farm. My parents generally purchase meat straight from farms as it's cheaper and easier to verify how halal and zabiha it is. When eating out, if it's a non-halal restaurant, I'll just eat vegetarian.

I have met some people who take things a bit further, to the point where it stresses me out, I just want to know what is Islamically correct. I know people who never eat processed snack foods like Taki's because they insist the coloring comes from beetles, and are as a result haram. Like wise I've met people who believe any coloring, l-cystine, flavoring, glycerin, sugar, vinegar, are absolutely haram. These ingredients are found in everything processed, I don't know how these people eat! What's the actual ruling on all this?
