Ok so they just dropped this news on me out of nowhere and I’m still shocked. Basically, there’s this man they want me to talk to and stuff to see if I like him and feel compatible with him so that I might marry him in the future... like after I’m finished with college or get my career. Or maybe even during, idk. I just know it’s not a very close time to right now.
Anyway, I don’t think I want to even speak to the guy since I barely know him at all, but obv my parents want me to give him a chance because I “might miss out on a nice person”. I’m not stuck up or anything, but he’s my cousin so I’m not into doing incest. Cousin stuff was back then okay Bc they couldnt travel, but now we can and aren’t restricted to little villages.
But ... on the off chance I do what to see what he’s like, what kind of questions would a Muslim ask to see if they’re compatible? What kind of Islamic questions? Should I talk about politics? Their views on controversial stuff?
And I’m so grateful that Islam requires consent from both parties, so it’s not an actual forced arranged marriage. But I’m not sure how to deal with someone like this. Does Islam forbid talking about non Islam things with possible spouses? Like what shows/books they like, food and fashion, etc? Or does it always have to be about Islamic things?
I’m really lost. I’m sorry my post is a mess. All I care about is my consent, and how to deal with this.
