I just read the comments on the f***islam subreddit, and just realised that the reason why they won’t budge to our peaceful interpretation is because their minds are already so violent towards us, hence they’re reading all the Qur’an translations as if it was written by someone who’s violent and angry.
For example, the OP of the most liked post there was explaining how Allah told us to stop fighting when our opponents cease (from fighting). This makes sense to me because I always see Allah as all-loving, all-caring, and that’s why our beloved Prophet stopped fighting with the Meccans when they ceased fighting, no matter how advantageous our numbers were at the time. And in the end he managed to conquered Mecca without a single bloodshed.
Why did I interpret the ayah the same way as the OP? Because I can feel Allah’s love everyday and this is the only way I can imagine Allah would want His creations to behave.
However this other guy basically interpreted it as “the ayah means stop the fight when they cease worshipping anything but Allah”, which means we have to fight everyone until everyone is a muslim. And this guy wants us to see it the same, violent way he saw it.
Then I realised. These people who claimed that Islam is a religion spread by the sword are actually people who live by the sword. Their worldview is so violent and they’re so angry that they can’t even feel Allah’s love. I truly wish them hidayah, for I fear for their afterlife.
And I am most thankful to Allah for letting me feel his love, even as someone who’s imperfect in following His orders.
