I've got a practicing muslim friend at university who from time to time will steal small food items from one of the campus cafeterias. Things such as candy bars, ice cream bars, or packs of nuts. The first time I witnessed him do it I was kind of surprised and asked him what he's doing. He told me the university(Toronto) is a million or billion dollar institution that cheats young students by making them pay much more than something is worth, and that he as a student has every right to demand or atleast take food without overpaying for that as well. Also that he is not harming anyone who actually needs the money, as in the workers.
Obviously I know stealing is haram, but I didn't know how to refute him. Is it really stealing if you're taking from someone who's 'stealing' from you? What he's saying makes sense and I don't really know what islam says about this specific circumatance.
