1. Are you planning to move to a muslim country in the future ? seeing how hijra (immigration) is obligatory for the one who has the means ?

  2. If you are not planning on this, then how do you interpret this verse ?

Verily! As for those whom the angels take (in death) while they are wronging themselves (as they stayed among the disbelievers even though emigration was obligatory for them), they (angels) say (to them): "In what (condition) were you?" They reply: "We were weak and oppressed on earth." They (angels) say: "Was not the earth of Allah spacious enough for you to emigrate therein?" Such men will find their abode in Hell - What an evil destination! Except for the oppressed among men, women and children who cannot devise a plan nor are they directed to a way - [Quran 4:97:98]

or this Hadith ?

“I have nothing to do with any Muslim who settles among the mushrikeen."

Many people explain away these evidences by saying : "there is no difference between kaffir countries and muslim countries in terms of temptation and corruption (decadence)"

Even if we admit this, muslim countries are the safest bet.

I don't know if many people here know about Pascal's wager. The basic idea is that if an atheist thinks there is even a tiny chance of God existing then it necessarily follows that they should believe in Him. Because when computing the mathematical expectancy of return, we find it is +∞ for believing and -∞ for not believing. In other words, the atheist has everything to gain in believing and everything to lose in disbelieving. This mathematical argument undeniably demonstrates that the rational thing to do for the atheist is to believe (unless he is 100% sure of the non-existence of God).

Basically the same argument applies about Hijra. If there is even a slight chance that your interpretation is wrong and that Hijra is obligatory for you, then you have everything to lose by not doing Hijra.

I personally cannot take this risk.

I guess the final question I want to ask is

  1. for those of you who are not planning to do Hijra. How did you come to terms with the risks stated above ?
