I was reading the Qu'ran and it said something along the lines of "They separated their religion piece by piece, you're not one of them" ( not 100% as it was translated from Arabic to Turkish and now I translated it to English ). There is a Shia and Sunni divide, so aren't we dividing our religion? Can I just be a Muslim instead of a Sunni or Shia? I wanted to discuss this and reddit came to mind and this seems like one of the largest subs I could post this on, so I am new to here.
