Assalamu alaykum.

I have several issues that prevent me from accepting that the Qur'an is the true and final word of God. Please help me understand how these can be reconciled.

  1. The concept of abrogation, in my opinion, takes away from the perfection of the Qur'an because it implies that those rulings were not perfect. Why would they not simply be recorded as Ahadith, why was it necessary to put rulings for a specific place and time in the Qur'an?

  2. There are references to missing verses (e.g. verse of stoning and breastfeeding, most of surah al-ahzab, Umar said that we should say 'we have whatever of the Qur'an has survived', etc). If the Qur'an is supposed to be perfectly preserved, why have these verses not survived?

  3. Why are Elijah and Jonah called by the Latinised form of their names (Elias/Ilias and Ionas/Yunus), while Zechariah (Zakariyya) is not?

  4. Why are there verses that are very specific (e.g. prohibition on staying at Muhammad's house too long after eating) but there is no mention of Dajjal, or the exact words of the Shahada, etc?

  5. Surah 7:157 states that there is a prophecy or description of Muhammad found in the Torah/Gospel of the time that Muhammad was around. This is an issue for me because:

• Any prophecy that has been put forward about Muhammad is not about him upon viewing the context of the verse.

• Therefore this must refer to a text that only a specific sect of Arab Jews/Christians had.

• Why is the Qur'an making a vague statement when referring to a specific written tradition?

Jazakumullah khayr, and thank you for your patience with me.
