Ramadan is about 10 days away insha'Allah which brings us to:
Eid Gift Exchange
Abu Hurairah (ra) narrated that the Prophet said: "Give gifts and you will love one another." (Adab al-Mufrad)
And Aisha (ra) narrates that Allah's Messenger () used to accept gifts and used to give something in return. (Muslim)
and Abu Hurairah (ra) narrated in a hadith with a weakness that the Prophet said: "Give gifts, for indeed the gift removes bad feelings from the chest" (Tirmidhi)
Which brings us to....the 5th Annual Eid Gift Exchange.
You can see the gift's thread from a previous exchange here and the previous years here. 46 participants across 5 continents at the highest!
Since we are r/Islam we're going to inevitably attract more than our fair share of trolls. Because of this, we're going to have to be a bit strict on who joins in this gift exchange. If anyone somehow gets into the exchange, but you suspect them as a troll from the past, please let me know. Don't claim someone is a troll just because you don't like their views and opinions that they share on this subreddit.
- Sign up by sending me an email at eidgifts@gmail.com. Send this to me no later than Friday, May 10th. That's the first Friday of Ramadan. Include the following information:
- Username (must be one that has posted in r/Islam, r/MuslimMarriage, r/Hijabis, or r/Converts and has not been created in the last week. no throwaways)
- Gender (we're going to have two gift exchanges. No, I'm not going to change my mind, don't PM me.)
- Country
- If you have a sibling/friend IRL that's also participating and you don't want to be matched with them. (This is the only acceptable reason to not match with someone. Don't message me saying you don't want to be matched with Sunnis/Shi'ites/Sufis/Salafis.)
- If you have ever participated in the past
Use a throwaway email address if you want but don't forget to check it regularly. I can't PM every individual person so I'll be using email to send out communications and any announcements. Also, if you have any complaints or need to contact me, I'd prefer that you use the email, not this reddit account. Just easier to stay organized.

Within a few days of signing up, you should receive an email invitation to the gift exchange from elfster.com. Don't let that email go to spam. Once you accept, you'll be asked to enter your name and mailing address. This will only be visible to your eid partner and myself. You do not have to sign up for the free membership to elfster.com.
-
Insha'Allah, your giftee will be selected by no later than Sunday, May 12th You'll receive an email from elfster.com with a link to your giftee and his/her address. You can then stalk them (reddit style, please don't buy binoculars) or view their wishlist/ask them questions on elfster.com. If the mailing address you receive seems fake (666 Shawarma Law Drive, Kaffirville, USA) send me an email within 24 hrs. I'll remove those usernames and set up a second gift exchange among people who received troll matches.

In terms of cost, I'm going to recommend aiming for between $15 and $40.
What about international shipping?
I'm going to try my best to pair up people who are in the same country. This is why I'm asking for approximate location. At the same time, realize that if you're from outside America/Canada/UK, it's going to be a bit harder for me to guarantee that you'll be shipping to the same country. If you are fine with shipping international, let me know.
What if I'm a lurker and don't have an account that's posted to r/Islam or r/Hijabis?
If you're a lurker and still want to participate, you'll have to find some other way to verify you're real. In the past, it was done via college email and Facebook account. That's intrusive enough to dissuade trolls. If it's too intrusive for you and you're not a troll, probably better to make an account and participate in /r/Islam for the next gift exchange.
